The Burnout Trap - Are You Spending Your Energy Well?
Do you ever wonder about the Reason Why You’re Always Tired? The burnout trap looks like trying to do less and less, until we can barely function at all. It’s tempting to ask questions like: “How can I rest better?” or “How can I do less?” when actually a more helpful question may be, “Are you spending your energy well?” What if, instead of doing less, we could remove the barriers that prevent us from doing more? In this video, I will share the most common burnout traps and my strategies on how I spend my energy well to avoid burnout.

How to Be Social with Autism (Avoid Social Isolation with Social skills training)

Considering that autism is largely a social disability, having social skills training for autistic adults may seem like a good idea. After all, autistic adults need to improve their social skills, right? Counter-intuitively, this approach does not usually work because these trainings are designed with stereotypical relati...

I don’t agree with this at all. If anything, I think most people on the planet are guilty of UNDER explaining than the opposite. Most people are so “short attention span theater” that their only method of communication is the digital equivalent of two syllable grunts and squeaks…then we all sit here with our collective surprised Pikachu face, wondering why the planet is the clown world that it is. Of course it is! No one bothers to explain themselves… No one cares about detail… No one takes the time to actually UNDERSTAND what’s truly happening in the minds of those around them. Most people just want the “Cliff’s Notes” version of life, then can’t understand why that’s EXACTLY what their lives end up being.

While talking over the radio, when I'm not entirely sure I got the message correctly. I will respond with telling them what I'm actually going to do. Then I get the response "Yes, that's what I said" in an irritated tone. I guess I sometimes need to better balance the effects of having misheard/understood an instruction vs hogging the radio to much. Probably comes down to having more faith in myself and my intuition, accept that things can sometimes go wrong and say sorry afterwards.

I've done it all my adult life and I'm pretty sure it's due to some pretty serious childhood abuse I mean physically fists and being lied to time and time recurring and being punished for lies that my stepmother told about me so I became a HSP and then PTSD. Add Born worrier onto everything all because of 15 years of serious childhood abuse and I've done it all my life. I overthink and My HSP reads into things that are not really there I worry about what people might have perceived I write a massive email then I seriously regret it then I try to put that right and I send that off and then I think oh my gosh and then I feel that I can't face the world anymore and I feel like I have to hide in a hole. All because of 15 years of serious abuse from my father with fists raining down on me because of damned lies told by my stepmother to get me into trouble and repeatedly being fisted to say sorry when I hadn't actually done anything wrong in the first place so I spent a lifetime trying to prove I'm right when I've not done anything wrong all because of the BS parents that I hate with every fiber of my being Even at age 69 I hate them especially when they denied it when I was in my 30s they denied it in front of my daughter that freaking hurt So that's my story and I'm sure that many many people could relate to that one. I'm not going to return to this and edit it, I PROMISE 😂 have a great week

This is really interesting, thanks. I do think there are also more subtle, nuanced reasons why some of us overshare, or over explain. Perhaps we have not been seen and heard in our early life, maybe even misunderstood. Maybe we have been exploited, and manipulated, and are simply trying to avoid this continuing. Maybe this is not simply about neurodivergence, and has something to do with trauma, and our trauma response??

I always had amazing grades and git into top unis for my bachelors and masters. I however need an inhumane effort to read an analogic clock, my mother and boyfriend can't understand it. It's not that they say i don't belive it, more like they're shocked about it. But actually in particular with temperature and light sensitivity I think I was often called exaggerated. But I just can't handle bright light or temperatures which aren't between 15-26 or cigarette smoke

I'd like advice from the other side: when I receive an over explained email or message, which unfortunately happens to me a lot, and can include links for "it's only half an hour" videos I'm supposed to watch so that I can "understand better", I would like to know how to handle that, because frankly I don't bother to read when it's so attention seeking and I certainly don't want to be told what my viewing list is for tonight.

That is not the core of the problem: I am autistic: And i am a vaccum cleaner in gathering informations. Fact: I like detailed informations and i spend lots of time with research and gathering informations from various angles. Thus i anticipate, that approximation turns out more precise with a higher sample - rate in topic resolution. Thus i enhance the density in expectancy of a sharper image (informations x,x`, x`` ...times n). That the neuro - typicals have a very narrow DA - converter, is, what i miss at this point even knowing it. I rise the switchtime and the "normal" DA converter gets hot (for what reason so ever). Even if i isolate issues, that causes malfunction of the "normal" DAC. It is a digital - analog issue: Autistics are rather on the digital side and the normal version is rather analogue. Not to forget: Any DA - out needs an operational amplifier and the slew rate is decisive in its capability to convey contents. That slew - rate issue with "normals" is exhausting. You can sample things you want: under 5v/µs you get compressed, messed, exhausted and depressed. Basically it is a content - filter - problem, a sample versus converted information issue.

It is not only "over-explaining". As you address in the video, it also depends on the receiver. I rejoice when getting more information and the sender being transparent, showing effort, intent and arguing. Especially in asynchronous communication, the cycle until the next communication usually takes too long or the hurdle is not taken and correcting information/having to assume scenarios over such a channel is tedious when both parties switch context, are occupied with other tasks. But a lot of people prefer to live in undiffered accelerated superficialness and dishonesty for their own well-being, play number games and let things rest because they actually want to pursue other interests and instant gratification. I have experienced how others skim through emails, cherry-picking what they can easily respond to and leaving out everything else. They don't try to comprehend the point of the sender and do not have the sense of accountability, as their environment does not teach them to value such.

Two other reasons why people often misunderstand things is, because their attention span has decreased (because of smartphones, internet and multiple distractions) and humanity also is getting a bit more dumb. So: less attention + less IQ = a lot more misunderstandings. Oh, and also a reason is: Today everyone is more me, me, me. People don't want to listen anymore.

I am a chronic over-explainer and things I heard in this video will help in addition to my self-realization. This brings me a disadvantage when I'm stuck at trying to explain and this becomes a weakness vs. a manipulative person. I can also add that, when you start explaining, give yourself breaks to check the other person. You will probably see loss of interest in their eyes or hear non-sense responses from them. This also helps to adjust where you should conclude.

I have no idea what I am, sometimes I am an introvert, others an extrovert. They thought I was a genius when I was a kid, but since then I just am very good at many things (not at genius level). I use both of my hands on my daily life and I have sort of TOC and ADHD. Sometimes I hate being with people and since young I always felt like I didn't fit in (like if I wasn't like them), but now it's easier but it depends on the day. I explote easily when something doesn't goes as planned but I also like attention from people. Sometimes I am very calm, other times (mostly with my order) I explode like a little kid. Sometimes I am extremely shy and feel unconfortable with I contact, other times I like it. I take everything to literal, and sometimes struggle to understand some jokes or stuff, but i can also make that kind of jokes and statements. I have no idea what the hell I am HAHSHHS, but it was fun to write it. It is like if I was somedays very autistic and shy, and others completly confident and normal. This is now that I'm an adult, while being a kid I always felt unconfortable showing affection or being with others (I did, but it was always kinda hard)

Thanks for making this video! The part about “find the main idea you want to communicate” was very helpful. I tend to over explain, or under communicate. I definitely have a fear of being misunderstood or not believed, which I think fuels them both. I’m worse verbally than via written media (had a fantastic teacher who taught me how to be a more concise writer). Part of my over explaining verbally is I get something out of order, then backtrack, or I get distracted by other tangents where I see a connection that the person I’m talking to may or may not see. Now I will stop, and hopefully I did not over explain 😂😂😂
